Bolivia demographics
Bolivia's ethnic distribution is estimated to be 30% Quechua-speaking and 25% Aymara-speaking Amerindians. The largest of the approximately three-dozen native groups are the Quechuas (2.5 million), Aymaras (2 million), then Chiquitano (180,000), and Guaranà (125,000). The remaining 30% is Mestizo (mixed European and Amerindian), and around 15% is classified as white. The white population consists mostly of criollos, which in turn consist of families of relatively unmixed Spanish ancestry, descended from the early Spanish colonists. These have formed much of the aristocracy since independence. Other smaller groups within the white population are Germans who founded the national airline Lloyd...
Culture of Bolivia
Bolivia is a country in South America located at the Andes mountains. It has a significant Native American population which mixed Spanish cultural elements with their ancestors' traditions. The clothing used during the festivals reminds the visitor of the pre-Columbian Indians and the 16th century Spaniards. Dances Many dances and songs contain elements from both the native and the Mediterranean culture; obviously they suffered a strong Spanish influence during colonial times. Bolivia - From "La Paz" to "La...
La Paz - the capital of Bolivia - is about four thousand kilometre above sea level. The President of this country, Morales, must have a good overview from this height. Still we all should wonder whether his vision point in a comfortable direction. First his friends, the president of Venezuela - who is just reported amongst the hundred most influencing people "who are shaping our world," according to Time ( His other companion is Fidel Castro. He is not on the same list and that seems reasonable, because after more than forty years in Cuba his Time is ending. Nationalizing the gas and oil companies - the issue that is currently at stake - will leave this president with a lot more than two enemies...

Cheap International Travel - The Secrets
What is the real secret to cheap international travel? It is the same as the secret to doing anything for less. Learn to be an opportunist. Opportunistic travelers get to travel more, see more and do more. Of course, you can ignore this advice if you have unlimited funds. I went to Ecuador because it was cheap. Honestly, aren't there many interesting places in this world? Why not choose one you can travel to inexpensively? The other places will be there in the future, and you may have an opportunity to go to those places cheaply at some point. Cheap Countries Ecuador is my favorite international destination. You can still get a decent meal for two dollars. U.S. dollars, by the way, since that's...

INTRODUCTION: I studied drawing at scool for many years, but I did not like it very much. My favourite subject at school were the olympic sports. I remember when I was a child and I played soccer with my friends. My best memory was when El Salvador,a small Central American country, qualified at the World Cup in 1982.I did not think "ES" defeat Mexico, sixth place in the FIFA World Championship in 1970. Between 1978 and 1989, El Salvador had one of the worst civil war in the modern history of Latin America.Unfortunately, more than 70,000 people were killed by anti-communist dictatorships and marxist rebels. Certainly, I was a big fan of Salvadoran soccer. I once said: "ES ganarà el Mundial ( El...

The motherland of tango
Argentina is the second biggest country on the continent and one of the most powerful. Argentina is considered to be the most European country in Latin America. It has attracted a lot of emigrants during the XXth century, which changed country a lot. European influence is strongly felt in its culture, architecture and life style, but the Argentineans managed to keep its unique identity. It's especially obvious in Argentine's literature. The names of Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortazar and other Argentinean authors have become the symbols of Latin America "magic realism". Argentina has less ancient Indian attractions than, for example, Peru or Bolivia, but there is still a lot to see. The capital city...
Electrical Plug Adapters
There are two essential aspects to take note of. At the first instance, it is important to note that the electrical power specifications may vary from country to country that you are visiting. Not many countries have a electrical power specification as you have at home, and hence you should have the right adapter with you when you travel abroad. Secondly, the kind of wall mounted power outlet sockets in most of the countries, are not usually the ones that you find at home. It is entirely different, and your device power input plug may not fit into that socket at all. The mains power voltage specifications differ from country to country. For example, the electrical and electronic devices in U.S...
What You Need To Know About Argentina
Next to Brazil in size and population, Argentina stretches from the Atlantic to the Chilean border and the lofty Andes peaks. Aconcagua (22,834 ft, 6,960 m) is the highest mountaintop in the world aside from the major peaks in Asia. Argentina is surrounded by Bolivia and Paraguay on the north, and Uruguay and Brazil on the east. The northern area is comprised of the marshy and somewhat wooded Gran Chaco, adjoining Bolivia and Paraguay, and to the south are the undulating, rich Pampas. The area is agriculturally rich and sheep and cattle are the mainstay of the Brazilian population. Southward is Patagonia, an area marked by cool, dry plain interspersed with wooded and rich agricultural zones...
I recently had a chance to talk to Chris Ronneseth of Trek Holidays (see interview preview) who gave me a good overview of adventure travel, an area of travel I definitely would like to explore sooner than later... 1. Tell us how you got into the adventure travel business. I grew up around travel. My father, Allan Ronneseth founded the company in 1972 and with a passion to see the world in a different way than the norm, we had the opportunity to travel to countries that were considered exotic at that time and to some extent still are today. Venturing out on my own traveling while attending University I became more and more passionate about the world beyond North America. With a degree in marketing...

Atacama Desert Ghost Town
The Atacama Desert is an amazing place - renowned as the driest place on earth it conjures up images of a desolate barren wilderness. Which, of course much of it is, but it is also a land of great natural beauty and fascinating human history. One such period of its colourful history was the nitrates boom, which resulted in the British ghost towns, that still stand, arrogantly Victorian in uninhabited parts of the desert where it never rains. Nitrates first began to be commercially exploited in the 1860 when the Atacama Desert belonged to Peru and Bolivia. However, in 1878 a dispute between Chile and Bolivia over export licences resulted in Chile sending troops to the region to protect her interests...
A Review Of German Mannerisms For Foreign...
Visitors from other parts of the world that visit Germany for vacation or business purposes are typically pleased to note that Germans are cordial, polite, and welcoming. However, as with any culture, Germans have mannerisms that are unique to them. Since social etiquette is considered important in every society and Germans are no different, visitors that take a small amount of time to familiarize themselves with what Germans consider good manners will find that locals will often appreciate and even more warmly accept them into their country. Shaking Hands Germans typically wait until introduced by a host to shake hands. Typically, older parties in a group or more senior persons reserve the right to...

Mastering The Latin American Bus System
I have been on buses from Nicaragua to the end of the Pan-American Highway in Chile. I have crossed the Andean mountain range, the Atacama Desert, the entire length of Costa Rica and several bays by ferry on buses. The quality of bus can be predicted by the length of the voyage and the level of development of the country. For example, my friend traveled half the length of Bolivia in a school bus. The only solution offered for those who wished to relieve themselves, was a muddy hillside directly next to the bus. My favorite bus system would be that in Chile, where for overnight journeys, the bus assistant offers hot coffee and cookies to the passengers. These of course are equipped with onboard...
The Wonderful Creatures of The Galapagos Islands A wonder of creation, the Galapagos Islands have captured the imagination of poets and biologists alike. Separated from the mainland in the waters of Ecuador, evolution created stunning endemic creatures such as the giant tortoise and the sea iguana, animals found only on the Galapagos. The most groundbreaking work ever to be published concerning evolution, "The Origin of Species", was based on observations made on the Galapagos Islands by Charles Darwin. Lake Titicaca Lake Titicaca evokes a spiritual tranquility and is the most beautiful lake I've ever seen. It touches the clouds at an altitude of 12.532 ft. (3.820 m.) with amazing dark blue waters...
Endangered Animals of Peru
Animals are considered endangered when they are at risk of extinction, either because there are only a small number of them left, due to threats from changes to their environment, shifting of predator to prey ratios, and other factors. Nations over the last 50 years have developed laws to protect species form becoming extinct; however few species actually get on these lists. Many become extinct without the attention or protection of humans, though it is true that in probably all cases over the last century, the machinations of humans have caused the imbalances that have led to the disappearance of thousands of animal and plant species. Especially within the last century and a half, species have been...

Uganda Hotels - The Boost For Tourism
HISTORY Hotel growth in Uganda started in the19th century, a decade after independence during the colonial period. This saw the growth of accommodation, transport and infrastructure in Uganda (tourism.) The political instability during the 1970's and 1980's led to the decline in the hotel industry as well as tourism. Hotels were closed, destroyed and made into police barracks like the Nile mansions. The taking over of power in 1986 by the National Resistance movement (NRM) led to the revival of the tourism industry. Uganda has consistently worn foreign and international relations, support of large international organizations like World Tourism Organization, and has attracted internal and external...
New Travel Plans: Heading Off To Vancouver and...
Well, I finally did it. I took a bunch of Airmiles and booked a flight yesterday to Vancouver. I'll be out in beautiful British Columbia from August 3 to 8 to cover the Canada-US Servas Conference and to explore and report on my West Coast adventure first-hand. In all the almost 19 years that I've been in Canada, I have never made it out to the West Coast yet, so I am really excited. Some of my absolutely favourite landscapes can be found where the sea meets the mountains, and from everything I have heard, Vancouver has it all. It has one of the most scenic locations in the world where the Rocky Mountains converge dramatically with the Pacific Ocean. It'll be a very compressed trip since I'll head...

When it comes to studying other languages, learning Spanish is at the top of the list in the US. Estimates indicate that by the year 2015 the United States of America will be the largest Spanish speaking country in the world. As national debate continues on whether or not Spanish should become our second national language, common sense tells us that it is certainly worthwhile to become at least somewhat fluent in the second most popular language on the American continent. On the other hand, being proficient in more than one language is quite an accomplishment. If you are interested in learning something new, but are not quite sure which language to take up, you might want to consider Spanish. If you...

Property buyers in Latin America under threat?
Could the left's victories in recent Latin American elections pose a serious threat to foreign property buyers? President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela openly tolerates property rights violations. In Altos Mirandinos, 683 'property invasions' were recorded in 2005 in which houses were simply seized by squatters. Evo Morales, Bolivia's first indigenous president, and Ecuador's Rafael Correa, have both expressed strong admiration for Chavez, who has promised to transform Venezuela from a capitalist to a socialist state. With the re-election of Chavez and Lula da Silva in Brazil, and the victories of Correa in Ecuador and Evo Morales in Bolivia, Latin America has moved firmly to the left. Other leftist...

Ah, the everyday fruits at the English-speaking table: apple, orange, banana. Tangerine, peach, strawberry. Maybe a bunch of grapes or the occasional kiwi. As anyone can see, the fruit table at the typical banquet is stuck in a rut. We haven't seen nearly enough exotic offerings to invigorate our taste buds with a new experience... and sometimes challenge our notion of fruit entirely! Here, we present a guide to some up-and-coming fruits whose time for recognition is long overdue: Atemoya - Atemoyas are popular in Taiwan, though they are native to the South Pacific in general. Atemoyas are round in shape, with green, bumpy skin. They are juicy and smooth, tasting slightly sweet and a little tart...

With Google reporting that over 50% of their traffic comes from multilingual searches, it has become crucial to consider developing a multilingual online presence. However, the question remains the same: Which markets to target? Which ones are the most important in terms of users, etc.? First of all, let's see which parts of the world feature the most users. Contrary to general belief, it is not North America! With close to 400 million users, Asia definitely takes the lead, followed by Europe with approximately 315 million users, in comparison to 232 million in North America (North America being defined as the U.S., Canada, and Mexico). In my extensive experience with multilingual online...

Not only food plants, these new farmers also rear livestock, poultry, and even fish in so compact an area. City residents especially those from the lower brackets feel insecure about their food...
